Celebrate Summer with General Canby Day
posted 04/15/2008 by Tabitha Jensen

Independence Day, the Fourth of July and General Canby Day all wrapped into one. For over two decades, General Canby Day continues to be the premier event in Canby, Oregon. The day begins by getting your fill at the “Pancake Breakfast.” The General Canby Day car show with a DJ to play your favorite song would be the next stop .The car show brings out some rare and unique automobiles at no cost to the entrants. Judges and Spectators all have an opportunity to vote for their favorites. Kids Corner is the next stop on the way to Wait Park. Kids Corner, Teen Street and The Pioneer Village have Crafts, Games and hands on things for all to do, for both young and old, at little or no cost to the visitor. Sandwiched between Holly and Ivy Streets E&W and Third and Fourth Avenues N&S. Wait Park is the Centerpiece of General Canby Day. The Opening Ceremony at the Wait Park Gazebo begins at 10 AM. Introduction of the King and Queen, National Anthem and Flag Raising will happen at that time. The Bell Ringing ceremony is a National Observance at 11 AM at the Gazebo. There is entertainment throughout the day, both at the Gazebo and on the Street. Be sure to watch for the Street Entertainers. There is an ongoing Art Show on First Avenue, and a Book Sale at the Public Library on Holly Street. The Parade starts promptly at 2 PM finding its way around Town then passes by Wait Park midway through its path. Awards are presented around 5PM while Booths and Festivities continue until about 5:30 when the American Legion will, “Retire the Colors.” It does not end here! What would Independence Day be without a Fireworks Display? Truly one of the finest displays around, and with ample viewing for all at Trost School, it begins at 10 PM. Please note that personal fireworks and alcohol are not allowed in the area. For your safety, please remain behind the caution tape. Bring the Whole Family for a day of “Food, Fun and Fireworks!”
